In the 1970s, McDonough County resident Duane Lester took it upon himself to document all the rural cemeteries in McDonough County. This valuable 18-volume set of cemetery books is available for the public to download below.

Volumes I through XVII are titled, Rural Cemeteries, and including maps, charts, inscriptions and genealogical notes on a total of 84 cemeteries and gravesites. Each volume contains 50-60 pages.
